Smart contracts for blockchain-based reputation systems: A systematic literature review by Ahmed S. Almasoud (2020)

Reputation systems serve as a platform where users can assess the trustworthiness or dependability of individuals offering online services or products. Historically, researchers have explored the integration of blockchain technology into reputation systems. Smart contracts, functioning as computer protocols, are designed to oversee, execute, or validate the performance or terms of contracts. However, this paper, through a systematic literature review, identifies a lack of an overarching framework enabling the seamless utilization of smart contracts in blockchain-based reputation systems. By conducting a systematic literature review involving 30 pertinent studies, we extracted data to pinpoint research gaps. As a remedy for these gaps, we introduce the FarMed framework—an intelligent framework geared towards implementing Ethereum smart contract-based reputation systems and establishing robust blockchain protocols for transferring reputation values across different providers. We briefly outline the components of our proposed framework before concluding with insights into our future endeavors.
