This pamphlet on calculus of variations and optimal control theory contains the most important results in the subject, treated largely in order of urgency. Familiarity with linear algebra and real analysis are assumed. It is desirable, although not mandatory, that the reader has also had a course on differential equations. I would greatly appreciate receiving information about any errors noticed by the readers. I am thankful to Dr. Sara Maad from the University of Virginia, U.S.A. for several useful discussions.
